SUNSHINE RENT A CAR ADVICE AND TIPS WHILE VACATIONING IN WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA.

When you need a rental car for vacation or business it's a good idea to consider several factors while reserving to make your trip more enjoyable. Since you may be in your car rental for a large part of your trip, the car you drive as well as your overall rental experience is obviously very important. Since there are many rental car agencies, some of the things you may want to consider beside the rate, are the service you get when you get off the airplane, how quickly you obtain your rental car, it's condition and convenience of returning your rental car. At SUNSHINE RENT A CAR you can expect no long counter lines, a current year car or van, clean and serviced, to make your driving experience trouble-free.

SUGGESTIONS AND INSIGHTS ON RATES

Reserve in advance, car rental rates change often! When it comes to saving money, reserving a car at least one week in advance is as good advice as any. Try to avoid walking up to the counter for last minute reservations. Rental car rates can change fast and are based on demand and availability. A rate strategy known as "yield management" is widely used in the car rental industry. This system automatically changes rates based on the number of rental cars reserved at any one rental car location. Therefore, since availability effects rates, the earlier you reserve the better.

Car rental rates are more competitive than airline rates! They change frequently because of supply, demand and location availability. This may result in a great opportunity for savings on your trip. It can be confusing, but be aware that when you are quoted a "base rental car rate" it does not include sales taxes, airport taxes, state surcharges and rental car coverages.

Some credit cards such as MasterCard Gold may be a source for excess or secondary coverage for a car rental but only if you use the same credit card to rent the vehicle. Some credit cards can be your primary collision coverage in absence of any personal car collision insurance where your personal insurance will not apply. Since these policies vary, call your credit card company to find out their policies for car rentals.
If you are renting a more expensive vehicle such as a Sport Utility or Luxury car your credit card may not provide collision coverage for these higher priced car rentals. It is best to check directly with your credit card company regarding which vehicles they will cover before counting on your credit card to cover for collision damage or theft during your car rental.
Good news for travelers who want to rent a car with a debit card and not a credit card! SUNSHINE RENT A CAR accepts debit cards with the Visa or Mastercard logo.
If possible, reserve your rental car with a weekly rate to get the best deal. Weekly rates usually means keeping the rental car from 5-7 days.
Be aware of the "24 hour clock rate". SUNSHINE RENT A CAR use a 59 min grace period before you are charged a hourly rate, not to exceed the daily rate, when returning a rental car later than what your car rental agreement states.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Question: Can I rent a car with a debit card instead of a credit card?
Answer: SUNSHINE RENT A CAR will accept debit cards with the Visa or MasterCard logo.

Question: What is a "drop-off fee"?
Answer: A drop-off fee or charge is usually applied if you return the rental car to a different location from where the rental car was picked up.

Question: Does SUNSHINE RENT A CAR provide or offer infant or child safety seats with my car rental?
Answer: We offer both infant and child safety seats with your rental car. You will need to reserve these in advance to insure you have one with your rental car. They are usually $3.00 per day extra.

Question: What if my driving record is less than perfect? Will SUNSHINE RENT A CAR check for DUI's etc?
Answer: Although most of the time we will not run a background check on your driving record you will need a valid drivers license. You may be disqualified from renting from our agency because of your driving record even with a confirmation! If your record is marginal, it is best for you to check with the rental car agency in advance on whether they will check your driving record at the counter.

Question: Why do rental car rates change so often?
Answer: Most rental car companies use a rate system called "yield management". This system is based on supply (availability) and demand. Car rental rates can change by the day, hour and even minute based on these factors.

Question: Do rental car rates I'm given cover all of my costs?
Answer: Not normally. On top of your rental car rate you may pay for airport car rental and state car rental surcharges applied to some locations, coverage if needed, mileage if not unlimited and of course sales tax.

Question: When renting a car, should I accept the coverage offered by SUNSHINE RENT A CAR?
Answer: It depends. Find out before you leave what your personal or corporate auto insurance policy will cover since these insurance options are expensive. There's a good chance you're already covered for the collision risk. Some credit cards cover collision but it may only be a secondary coverage. Other credit cards provide primary collision coverage if you do not have collision coverage with your personal auto insurance. Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is extra coverage priced up to $16 a day so check before you leave! If you are covered by your personal or corporate auto insurance policy, you will need to bring documentation. Including carrier, policy#, agent name and phone#.

Question: Does the Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) or Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) offered by SUNSHINE RENT A CAR cover the damages made to another car I hit (third party damages)?
Answer: No, not in most cases. Your personal or corporate auto insurance normally covers your liability in damages to another car. You should check with your insurance agent to see if this is the case. If you don't have your own coverage you should buy the liability coverage offered by the rental agency. Many credit cards and insurance do not cover these other charges. So, it is important for people to ask their insurance agents and credit companies specific questions, not just "Am I covered?". Of course, no coverage will be of use if you are in violation of the rental agreement. This includes unauthorized drivers.

Question: Do you have to be a certain age to rent a car?
Answer: Yes. We require that you at least be the age of 21.
Exceptions: The good news is if you are under 25, but over 21 years of age, you may be allowed to rent assuming you meet our underage requirements and pay an underage daily fee.

Question: Are you required to have a credit card?
Answer: For all practical purposes yes, and SUNSHINE RENT A CAR will also accept debit cards with the Visa or Mastercard logo only.

Question: Does a weekly rate mean you need to keep the rental car for 7 days?
Answer: The weekly rate for rental car companies applies for rentals of 5-7 days. If you think you'll need the rental car at least 5 days it's usually wise to book the weekly rate!

Question: With a weekly rate, if I need to keep my rental car longer than 7 days does my daily rate change?
Answer: Yes, extending your rental car term almost always means a much higher rate for those "extra days". If you're not exactly sure how long you will need a rental car, it's better to reserve the rental car for a longer period and bring it back earlier.

Question: If I'm from overseas, will SUNSHINE RENT A CAR accept an "International Driver's Permit/License"?
Answer: Yes, we will accept an International Driver's Permit or a valid, up-to-date driver's licensed issued by the country of which you are a citizen.

SAFETY INFORMATION

SUNSHINE RENT A CAR is committed to you and your safety.
We want to do everything possible to make sure your travel is safe and enjoyable. We urge you to take a few minutes to review this safety information before leaving our car rental facility.

According to law enforcement officials, criminals employ a number of methods designed to distract motorists and force them to stop their vehicles. This is especially true for people criminals think may be tourists.

Deception methods include:
Yelling, honking, or pointing at your rental car as if something is wrong with it
Motioning or asking you to stop and lend assistance
Flashing headlights at your vehicle
Bumping your rental car from behind
If you experience any of the above, don't pull over or stop. Instead, drive immediately to the nearest service station or well lit public area and telephone the police (9-1-1 in most areas).

8 steps to safe travel

Know your route! Before leaving the car rental counter, ask for specific directions to your destination, including applicable expressway entrances and exit numbers.

Roll 'em up! Keep your rental car doors locked and the windows up when driving or when parked.
No free rides! No matter how innocent or needy they may appear, hitchhikers can mean bad news. Avoid them.

Know your rental car! Familiarize yourself with your rental car's safety equipment, such as headlights and hazard lights, door locks, and spare tire, before leaving the car rental facility. Always fasten your seat belts.

Hide your valuables! Lock purses, wallets, luggage, and valuables in the trunk or glove compartment of your rental car.

See the light! Should you become lost, do not pull over on the side of the road to study your map or directions. Instead, drive to the nearest well lit, populated, public place such as a service station or restaurant. And be sure to lock your rental car and take the keys with you.

Ready, check, go! Always park in well lit areas and make sure you have your keys in hand when approaching your vehicle. Before entering, be sure to check inside and underneath your car. Lock your doors immediately upon entering.

Make the call. In the rare event you feel you are being followed, proceed to a well lit populated area and call the police. In most areas throughout the United States, the police may be called by dialing 9-1-1.

Having fun is what vacations are all about and SUNSHINE RENT A CAR wants to be a part of your good times, but please remember to drive responsibly. After all, renting a car is easy, replacing a life is impossible. Don't drink and drive.

How to spot a drunk driver

For your safety, watch for these warning signs to help you identify a drunk driver:
A vehicle making wide turns
Straddling lanes or tires on the center line
Drifting or moving in a straight line at a slight angle to the roadway
Driving with headlights off at night
Appearing to be drunk (e.g., eye fixation, face close to windshield)
Driving 10 mph below the speed limit
Stopping without cause or erratic braking
Slow response to traffic signals (e.g., sudden stop, delayed start)
Nearly striking an object, curb, etc.
Weaving or zig-zagging across the road
Driving on the wrong side of the road or anywhere other than a road designated for vehicles
Swerving, Tailgating, Accelerating or decelerating quickly

What to do if you see someone driving drunk?
Report suspected drunk drivers immediately to area law enforcement from a car phone or pay phone; provide the license plate number, description of the vehicle and the direction in which it was traveling. Do not attempt to stop the vehicle.
